Also called ACNE VULGARIS
It occurs in 80% of adolescents particularly the comedonal form.
Lesions of acne develop in sebaceous follicles .
The initial lesion of acne is called a comedo which is a dilated follicular sac filled with keratinous material, lipid, and bacteria. There is two types of comedo,an open and closed comedo . An open comedo known as( blackhead) is less commonly to become inflamed than a closed comedo(whitehead).
Other lesions of acne are inflammatory papules or nodules and also pustules.
At puberty ,the sebaceous gland enlarges and sebum production increases in response to the increased activities of androgens of adrenal origin . Comedonal acne is frequently the first sign of pubertal maturation.
In its mildest form ,which is often seen early in adolescence, acne lesions are limited to comedones on the central area of the face.Lesions may also involve the chest ,upper back, and deltoid area.
Acne can be controlled and severe scarring can be prevented by judicious maintenance therapy that is continued until the disease process abated spontaneously.
Diet: Little evidence shows that ingestion of particular foods can trigger acne flares, but when a patient is convinced that certain dietary items exacerbate acne,he or she should omit those foods but no need to impose unwarranted dietary restrictions.
Climate: Seems to influence acne in that improvements occur during summer and flares are more common during winter.
Emotional tension and fatigue: Seems also to exacerbate acne in many individuals, the mechanism may be related to an increased adrenocortical response.
Cleansing: It removes surface lipid and renders the skin less oily.Only superficial drying and peeling are achieved by cleancing, and almost any mild soap or astringent is adequate.Repetitive cleancing can be harmful because it irritates and chaps the skin.
Cleancing agents containing abrasives and keratolytic agents , such as sulfur, resorcinol, and salicylic acid, may temporarily remove sebum from the skin surface and suppress lesions to a limited degree.
Greasy cosmetics and hair preparations must be discontinued because they cause further plugging of follicular pores. Manipulation and squeezing of facial lesions provokes inflammatory reaction.
Topical Therapy: The most effective preparations include the benzoyl peroxide gels, retinoic acid, adapalene, and topical antibiotics
• benzoyl peroxide: Preparations are available in conc. Of 2.5% , 5% ,and 10% prescription gels and also 5% and 10% lotions . It should be applied as a thin film ,initially every other day and proceeding over 2-3 wk to once daily . Incidance of allergic contact dermatitis is 1% .
• Tretinoin(Retin-A): Is the single most effective agent for treatment of comedonal acne . It is available in 0.025%,0.05% and 0.1% creams ,also it is available in 0.01%gel,0.025% gel and 0.025% liquid . It may be applied once daily,30 min. after washing, typically starting with 0.025% cream and the strength of the formulation is increased sequentially until adequate control , Optimal results are not seen for 3-6 mo.
• Adapalene(DifferinGel) : It is a comedolytic and anti-inflammatory agent . A 0.1%gel may be more effective than 0.025% tretinoin gel. It may have a fever as a side effect .
• Topical antibiotics : These include the use of Clindamycin and erythromycin; they may be applied once or twice daily in concurrent use of benzoyl peroxide or tretinion. All topical preparations must be used for 4-8 wk before their effectiveness can be assessed . A popular and effective combination is the use of benzoyl peroxide gel in the morning and tretinion in the night .
• Antibiotics : Especially Tetracycline and its derivatives which are indicated in patients not responded to topical treatment or who have a propensity for scarring or who have severe papulopustular and nodulocystic acne.Tetracyclines are best administered in combination with topical benzoyl peroxide or tretinoin. For most adolescents therapy may be initiated with tetracycline,1g/24 hr,divided twice daily for at least 6 wk,followed by gradual decrease to the minimal effective dose.It should be taken on an empty stomach 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.Tetracyclines should not be used during pregnancy or in those younger than 9 yr.Alternatives to tetracyclines are erythromycin, minocycline, doxycycline and clindamycin .
• Hormonal Therapy: It can be tried in women who have acne and hormonal abnormalities and did not respond to antibiotics or who are not candidates for isotretinoin therapy. An effective combination is an antiandrogen such as cyproterone acetate or spironolactone, given on days 5-15 of the menstrual cycle, and ethinyl estradiol, given on day 5-26 of the cycle.
• Isotretinoin: It is indicated for moderate to severe nodulocystic acne that not responded to conventional therapy, and for severe scarring acne, and for acne that is associated with severe psychological disturbance .The recommended dose is 0.5-1.0 mg/kg/24 hr; four months therapy is required for most patients. At the end of one course of isotretinoin, approximately 30% are cured,35% need conventional topical and /or oral medications to maintain adequate control, and 25% have relapses and need an additional course of isotretinoin.Isotretinoin is teratogenic and it is contraindicated in pregnancy. Concomitant use of tetracyclines and isotretinoin is contraindicated because either drug can cause benign intracranial hypertension
• Surgical Therapy : Intralesional injection of low-dose (3mg/ml) of midpotancy glucocorticoids (e.g, triamcinolone),may hasten the healing of individual, nodulocystic lesions.Dermabrasion to minimize scarring should be considered only after the active process is quiescent .

Curing Acne Naturally - Effective Herbal Acne Treatments
Chances are, if you find yourself reading this article, you have suffered the feelings of embarassment, self-consciousness and insecurity an acne breakout can bring on in what seems like the blink of an eye. Suddenly, you find yourself checking the mirror every hour on the hour, hoping the blemishes on your face have spontaneously cleared and you can breathe a sigh of relief. You feel sure that everyone you come in contact with is zooming in on each and every blemish, and why wouldn't they be? It's certainly the first thing YOU see when you look in the mirror!
Now, imagine you experience this exact scenario every day of your life, as many men and women do who suffer chronic adult acne, far beyond the "acne prone" years of adolescence. The fact is, acne remains a very real and persistent problem in today's society for men and women, teenagers and adults, and instead of going away or getting better, it seems to be more prominent and more severe than ever. What this can be attributed to is the subject of much debate in the medical and dermatological community. Higher stress levels? More hormones and synthetic chemicals in our foods? Genes? Changing diets? It's anyone's guess, but the fact remains that acne is a very real cause for emotional distress, self-consciousness and insecurity for many, and it shows no signs of getting better.
With the advent of modern dermatology and medical science, there have been some excellent new products that combine modern science and nature to form a hybrid product superior to many of it's prescription counterparts, and highly effective for many who have found that traditional treatments failed them in the long run. The aim of these products is to facilitate hormonal balance, therefore targeting acne at the source, from the inside, rather than the outside alone.
These herbal acne medicines have proven highly effective in combatting acne by "cleansing" the skin from the inside, getting to the source of the problem by balancing the natural testosterone and estrogen found within the male and female body. Excess testosterone and excess estrogen are the primary causes of acne, hence the most common years for acne breakouts are the teenage years of hormonal turmoil.
Natural acne products can actually clear the skin for good, only requiring occasional follow up treatments, whereas conventional methods can require constant treatment, and the results disappear as soon as the individual weens themselves off the medicine. Also, many acne treatments prescribed by doctors or dermatologists are antibiotic in nature. Continuous antibiotic treatment can actually result in antibiotic resistance in the body, meaning when you really need your body to respond to antibiotic treatment, such as in illness, it may have built a tolerance and need more powerful meds to respond correctly. Some prescribed acne medications can even be dangerous, and are to be taken only for the most severe cases of acne and with the utmost caution (Acutane).
These treatments and systems are designed to target the hormones, balancing them in many cases for good, and requiring little or no follow up treatment or monitoring. They can work for people (myself a case-in-point), who have had every other conventional acne treatment fail them time and time again, or become ineffective over time.
Overall, herbal acne remedies have proven to be a highly effective and cost effective alternative for countless acne sufferers. Why not try it, and join the Clear Skin Club?

Herbal Therapy for Acne Treatment
Because prevention is the best way to protect your skin from the scarring associated with severe acne, many dermatologists recommend that controlling problematic acne through diet, regular cleansing procedures, and herbal remedies, is the most effective way to combat the tendencies of skin that is prone to acne and acne-related scarring.
Treatments that accentuate the regulation of daily habits having to do with diet, physical exercise, mood control, and other activities, are known as holistic treatments. Holistic treatments often include herbal therapies.
Herbalists recommend the following herbal remedies for acne and scarring:
• Black currant seed oil taken in 500-milligram capsules three times a day for three months or until acne is diminished.
• Evening primrose oil taken in 500-milligram capsules three times a day for three months or until acne is diminished.
• Teas made from a combination of echinacea, tea tree oil, goldenseal, nettles, or calendula.
• Teas made from lavender or chamomile, to help reduce acne-causing stress.
• Chinese herbs such as cnidium seed and honeysuckle flower.
• Teas made from cumin, coriander, and fennel, steeped for 10 minutes in hot water and consumed three times a day after meals.
Some alternative medicine practitioners recommend using diet as a way to combat acne and acne-related scarring. These practitioners believe that diets high in beta-carotene help to reduce the factors that contribute to severe acne. Orange and yellow foods such as carrots, pumpkin, and cantaloupe are loaded with beta-carotene and should be a regular part of the diet of anyone suffering from acne and scarring.
Another dietary recommendation for acne-sufferers is to consume many bland foods such as oatmeal, rice, brown grains, and applesauce. These foods should be eaten instead of spicy foods and fried foods, which are believed by some practitioners to stimulate the hormones and glands that aggravate acne conditions.
A daily practice of yoga is commonly recommended as a way to increase the flow of blood to the face. This helps to flush acne-causing toxins and to provide your facial skin with natural nutrients that help to decrease the formation of acne and to heal scar tissue.
People who suffer from acne should also take care to perform some simple daily rituals that can help to reduce the occurrence of acne and scarring.
Dermatologists and alternative medicine practitioners suggest that acne-sufferers should wash the area twice daily with mild soap. Washing should be gentle. Scrubbing or grating the skin will only aggravate the condition and lead to scarring.
Hair should be washed thoroughly and regularly and should be kept away from the face and shoulders.
Acne sufferers should also avoid shaving as much as possible. When shaving, take care not to run the blade over blemishes. Always use a new blade so as not to spread infection.
Avoid wearing make-up and facial cosmetics. If you must, take care to use make-up that is hypoallergenic.
In order to prevent scarring, do not pop or squeeze pimples. Popping and squeezing pimples is tempting, but can easily cause infection and the development of unwanted scar tissue.
While many of these holistic therapies can be easily performed at home, it is a good idea to speak with your dermatologist or alternative medicine practitioner about the best holistic measures to take as a way to help with acne and acne-related scarring.

Acne: Natural Hot Pepper Face Wash May Cure Acne
Nearly 60 million Americans experience bouts of acne, and more than 20 million of them end up with acne which may cause scarring. There are many remedies for acne and currently a company created another one, the world's first chili pepper based face wash that has guaranteed to wipe out acne within a few short days, and without the burning sensation associated with hot peppers.
A great part of remedies work, however, they take weeks and even months to make any noticeable difference. A lot of these products are also mixed with chemicals; they are expensive and generally require a daily regimen.
Capsaicin, the active element in hot peppers has been shown to be an inportant acne fighter. According to experts, it works through a thermal heat action that helps to open pores and increase blood flow to the surface of the skin. Capsaicin has powerful antimicrobial properties that help distinguish harmful bacteria that's hiding within the layers of skin.
Capsaicin also helps to desensitize sensitive skin by affecting a series of tiny nerves. Capsaicin may also be beneficial for relieving chronic topical pain associated with certain circulatory conditions.
The golden product is called "Capsiderm". Unlike arthritis creams -designed to relieve chronic muscle and joint pain- this new product is designed specifically to fight acne and tighten wrinkled lines on skin's surface.
There are immediate results within the first day or two of use. According to the company, most acne conditions will disappear completely within the first week - even severe cases.

What's The Real Cause Of Acne?
Acne occurs when your body contains more toxics than your kidneys and bowels can remove. (Your kidneys and bowels are the two primary channels of elimination that your body expel toxics and waste products through.)
These toxics can be the accumulation of fat stored chemicals the liver can not wash out or there may be a problem with fat digestion, fat accumulation, food allergy, or even the accumulation of hormones that your body produces.
Once these toxics build up, your kidneys and bowels can get overloaded and clogged up, causing it to not function properly. When that happens some of the load will be dumped onto your liver. One of your liver's main roles is to metabolize pile up fat into usable energy for your body.
This means, your liver will be doing some of your kidney's work. So now, your liver gets overloaded and it too will not work at full capacity.
What happens when your bowels, kidneys, and liver gets overloaded?
When that happen your body will expel toxins through your lungs and skin (your secondary channels of elimination). And this is when acne occurs. This is when your skin starts to breakout.
But whatever the toxic source is that‘s causing this problem, acne is a sign that your bowels and kidneys are overloaded with toxins, waste products, or hormones.
It is a sign that your liver is growing weaker in its detoxification abilities (and it will continue to grow weaker if you do not do what it takes to get rid of the toxics in your body).
So if you think that acne is your only problem, think again, your liver, kidneys, and bowels are getting weaker every time you breakout.

Here's The One Thing You Can Start Doing Today That Can Help Prevent Acne
By Houa Yang
You probably don’t know this yet but product wastes and toxic build up in your system is one of the main reasons why you have acne or why your skin breaks out.
You see, your body has 4 channels of elimination...your bowels, kidneys, lungs, and your skin. Your bowels and kidneys are the primary channels that your body expels product wastes and toxics through.
The only time that your body expels product wastes through your lungs and skin is when your bowels and kidneys are overloaded with product wastes and toxics or when your bowels becomes sluggish.
When this happens, your body will take some of the product waste and expel it through your lungs and skin (your secondary channels of elimination). Resulting in acne breakout.
However, you can prevent this from happening by increasing “fiber” intake. Fiber will absorb these toxins and product waste, and help your bowels sweep them out of your system fast.
So by taking enough fiber, you’ll be able to speed up your bowels transit time thus, preventing your body from expelling toxics through your skin and preventing acne.
So your next step is to start eating the type of foods that contains the highest amount of fiber.
What types of food contains the highest amount of fiber? Fruits and non-starchy vegetables.
Fruits such as apples, bananas, oranges, raspberries, and strawberries. And vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, spinach, parsnips, and potatoes. These contains the highest amount of fiber.
But this does not mean that you go out and eat as much of these high fiber foods as you can.
You should only consume enough so that your bowel transit time is between 12 to 18 hours. In other words, try not to consume too much fiber in day or else your transit time may be too fast causing nutrients to pass through your system without being absorbed. So if your transit time is under 12 hours, you may want to reduce the amount of fibers consume each day.
However, if your transit time is more than 24 hours then you really need to consume more fiber intake or else your body will start expelling these product wastes and toxins through your skin (resulting in acne breakout).
For me it’s about 32 grams of fiber a day but it may be different for you, so you should really test it out for yourself and see how much grams of fiber you should be consuming each day. It’s probably best to start out with 30 grams of fiber a day and go on from there.
How much grams of fiber does each fruit and vegetable contain? For the fruits I’ve listed above it’s about 3 grams each and the vegetables are about 2 grams each. However, I do recommend you consume more vegetables than fruits because fruits are high in natural sugar.
While consuming more fiber alone will not stop acne it can help in preventing acne. And that’s one portion of the pie in fighting acne.

Acne Cleanser, Acne Lotion and More –
Acne is a common skin disease affecting almost everyone. Acne is caused due to the blockage of skin follicle duct of sebum glands. This blockage traps sebum and causes inflammation of the skin. A bacterium P.Acnes readily infects this inflammation causing acne. There are many common acne products available in the market for acne treatment.
Acne cleansers are facial care products designed to remove dead cells, open up pores, remove oil, dust, dirt and other harmful pollutants. Generally acne cleansers are used twice or thrice daily and in conjunction with skin toners and moisturizers. Acne cleansers work better than ordinary soap because soap has a very high pH value which can change the pH balance of the skin. The method to use acne cleansers is to use luke warm water to clean the face then apply acne cleanser all over the face and throat. Next it is to be washed with luke warm water and then patted dry.
Acne lotions are oil and water emulsions designed to be applied on unbroken skin. Acne lotions are usually medicated with acne medicines like, antibacterials, skin exfoliants, retinoids or antibiotics. Acne lotions may contain soothing or protective ingredients also. Acne lotions have the advantage over creams or ointments as they can be applied thinly over a large area and hence can be economical.
Acne creams are semi solid emulsions. Creams can be used as a barrier for protection, as a delivery vehicle for anti acne agents and to retain moisture in the skin. Acne cream ingredients may include anti acne agents, moisturizers, skin exfoliants etc
Acne soaps are mild soaps used to open up the pores and remove oil in excessively oily skins.
All the above products if used in conjunction with acne dietary supplements like acuzine produce good results. Acuzine consists anti-oxidants, vitamins E & C, hydrolyzed collagen, ALA, DMAE, Aloe vera, Bioperine etc. The presence of these ingredients helps in early recovery of the skin and provides vital vitamins and enzymes for rebuilding the skin. Acuzine is available in the form of capsules.

What Are The Best Acne Treatment Products?By Arturo Ronzon
A good acne treatment product is one that reduces the inflammation and the rubor, and soothes the skin as well, without creating any harmful side-effects. A wide range of acne products are available in the internet, which come with the promise of miraculous results. Products that are marketed over the counter may help some patients for whom the conditions are not severe. Serious cases often necessitate medical counsels and stronger prescription strength medications.
The internet is a mine of information on the best acne products available in the market. Sufferers may locate some very useful treatment options. The most common acne products include therapeutic lotions, oil-removing gels, skin-clarifying creams, oil-controlling face-masks, oil-removing cleansers, dead-skin removing scrubs, and so on. Detailed information about their efficacy and prices, including consumer reviews, are also available online. However, it is advisable to exercise caution before making any purchase.
The different acne products have different active ingredients. While some patients may be benefited by the use of certain chemicals, others may not experience any effect at all. For individuals with sensitive skin types, some chemicals may cause more harm than good. Hence, seeking the advice of a medical professional is imperative. Also, one might have to try out several products before locating the product that works best.
Products that are designed to make the skin soft and supple and to dissolve the comedones often contain natural plant oils that are easily absorbed into the skin. Some of the products contain ingredients that have antibacterial properties and help stimulate the inherent cleansing capacity of the skin, as for example, Tea tree oil, Grapefruit extract, and Echinacea extract. Certain ingredients like Aloe Vera extract, Tricolor extract, Rose hip oil etc. are incorporated to diminish the swelling and encourage healing. In order to protect, make the skin soft and further dissolve the comedones, many products contain natural plant oils that are easily absorbed into the epidermis, like Tea tree oil, Rose hip oil, Lavender oil and Olive oil. Damaged skin is reconstructed and sebum is made for fluid with ingredients like Evening primrose oil, Borage oil, Olive oil, Soy oil, Flax-seed oil, Wheat germ oil and Lecithin.
Many products make use of artificial ingredients, like Benzoyl peroxide, adapalene gel, tretinoin and so on. However, these harsh chemicals, although efficient in curing acne, have harmful effects like itching and drying actions. Both of the latter products need prescriptions of certified doctors before these can be purchased.
Oral supplements are also used o provide nourishment to the skin. These include ingredients like Vitamins A, B complex, C, D, E, Folic acid, Flavonoids, Beta carotene, antioxidants like Green tea extracts, Methyl-sulfonyl methane, and minerals like Zinc, Copper, Magnesium, Selenium and so on. Spread of infection and scar formation is prevented using oral products that contain gum guggul extracts.
